For several months, dealers, farmers, economists, and others have been discussing the outlook for 2025. Although many comments have been bleak, there are some bright spots and factors to anticipate in the coming year.
Pre-owned machinery will be a major focus of 2025. Dealers will be closely monitoring their inventory and it’s expected that most equipment purchases will be used equipment more often than new equipment.
Financing has been a big topic for everyone, not just in agriculture, for much of the year. Interest rates have been historically high, which has slowed the purchase of equipment. Between higher rates and market numbers being lower, it’s expected there will be a smaller demand for new inventory and financing decisions will be more carefully considered. However, with more pre-owned machines being considered, there will still be a high need for agricultural equipment loans.
In the midst of slowing purchases, however, there is a growing opportunity for enhancing equipment that's already been purchased.
Precision upgrades are expected to be a popular option in 2025 for adding essential agricultural technology advancements without the need to purchase an entirely new piece of iron. Many of these upgrades have an agronomic impact and can improve efficiencies in operations while adding value to existing equipment.
Along with precision upgrades, equipment
service will be a major factor in the agricultural equipment industry throughout 2025. Service has always been a necessity for equipment performance, but with fewer equipment purchases, the need for top-tier service will be more crucial than ever. Inspections will be essential for identifying any potential problems that need to be addressed before peak seasons and efforts to minimize downtime will be even more necessary.
Finally, a higher demand for
parts and aftermarket accessories is an expected trend for the year ahead. Similar to service, the parts needed for equipment function must be available. Essential wear parts will need to be monitored and replaced more often to keep current equipment running smoothly.
