During the winter months, it’s likely that you have your lawn mower stored away for the season. Hopefully, you completed all the necessary winterization steps before you parked it for the year, but even with proper winterization, you can still monitor the health of your mower while it’s not in use. Castongia Tractor can help you maintain the life of your equipment with the right
parts and
service. Continue reading to learn more about monitoring the health and performance of your mower, even when it’s stored for the winter.
If you completely winterized your mower at the end of the mowing season, including the removal of your battery, fuel, and fluids, this step may not apply to you. However, if you haven’t completely winterized the system, it can be worthwhile to start your mower’s engine in the middle of the Winter. This allows you to test the health of the battery, engine, fuel lines, etc., and check for any leaks that may not have been present before.
If you start your mower engine in the colder months, though, be sure to start it in an open area with plenty of ventilation and allow it to run for a few minutes before you shut it back down.
Since your mower has been sitting in one place for some time, you’ll want to periodically check it for any signs of fluid leaks, rust, or corrosion. You might also take the opportunity to look for signs of cosmetic damage or signs that your mower has attracted the attention of any small rodents that can cause problems for connections and operations.
You can also inspect the tires at this time. If you didn’t rest your mower on blocks for the winter, you’ll want to be sure your tires aren’t developing flat spots; you may need to move your mower forward or backward to create even pressure across the entire tire during the few months when it’s being stored.
Finally, a new way to monitor the performance and health of your mower is to utilize John Deere connectivity features. Equipment Mobile and Operations Center are virtual tools to monitor the health of your equipment. With Equipment Mobile, you can view the specifications of your exact machine to order parts, follow a maintenance schedule, and understand the features and capabilities of your machine.
Using the John Deere Operations Center, you can expand on those abilities with connected machine monitoring. When you have a Smart Connector installed on your equipment, you’ll be able to view machine usage and performance, all from your desktop or mobile device. You can also partner with us as your dealer to enhance your service experience. We’ll be able to assist you with your machine health monitoring efforts and we’ll be notified of any proactive alerts that could prevent major breakdowns later on.
